HOUSTON – The Greater Houston area recorded a notably busy traffic day on Friday, April 3, 2026, with emergency responders handling 876 total incidents throughout the region. Of these incidents, 473 were classified as major crashes, while 403 were minor in nature. The high volume of traffic incidents stretched across four counties, with Harris County accounting for the overwhelming majority of reports at 786 incidents.

Harris County bore the brunt of Friday's traffic challenges, particularly in the evening hours. Major incidents were concentrated on several key roadways, including multiple crashes on the Sam Houston Tollway, particularly in the northbound direction near State Highway 225, and a series of serious collisions on the East Loop at Clinton Drive. The Southwest Freeway near Bellaire Boulevard and Interstate 10 westbound near the Durham exit also experienced significant traffic disruptions. Additionally, emergency responders managed a motorcycle fire on the Katy Freeway and responded to a report of a vehicle traveling the wrong way on I-610 South near South Post Oak Road.

Surrounding counties also experienced traffic incidents, though at substantially lower levels. Fort Bend County reported 68 incidents, while Montgomery County documented 13 incidents and Galveston County recorded 9. Several incidents in outlying areas, including a traffic stop in Fulshear and crashes in the Kingwood and Woodland Park areas, required law enforcement and emergency response resources.

Motorists traveling in the Houston area are advised to remain vigilant and exercise caution, particularly during peak traffic hours. Drivers should maintain safe following distances, avoid distractions, and monitor traffic reports before departing for their destinations. Commuters are encouraged to use real-time traffic monitoring applications and consider alternate routes when major incidents are reported on primary thoroughfares.
