SH 225 crash at Allen Genoa ramp early Saturday

A major crash on State Highway 225 outbound at the Allen Genoa entrance ramp shut lanes early Saturday morning. The wreck happened at 3:29 AM, according to responding officers.

This is the ninth incident LTA has recorded at this location in the past 30 days. Over the past 90 days, the corridor has seen 38 total incidents, with 23 classified as major, according to LocalTrafficAccidents.com data. Since January 2020, TxDOT CRIS public crash records show 356 crashes within about a quarter-mile of this intersection.

The early-morning timing meant lighter traffic volume than you'd see during peak hours. LTA data shows the single busiest hour at SH 225 and Allen Genoa is 5–6 PM, when this location has logged four crashes. But crashes here occur at varied times rather than concentrating in one window—Fridays have been the highest-incident day, with eight crashes logged over the past 90 days.

Weather was overcast and 79 degrees at the time of the crash. While conditions were clear, speed remains a persistent factor at this corridor: contributing factors as recorded by the investigating officer, per TxDOT CRIS, show "Failed To Control Speed" as the leading factor, cited in 126 crashes at this location since 2020.

Lanes were reopened following standard incident clearance. Traffic has since returned to normal outbound flow on SH 225.

Update (11:30 AM CT): The major crash at SH225OB-ALLEN GENOA 10092 SH 225 FREEWAY at ALLEN GENOA ENTR RAMP, first reported at 3:29 AM, has cleared after more than 8 hours. All lanes have reopened and normal traffic flow has resumed in the area.
